Former Administrator of USAID Joins IYF Board

Henrietta Holsman Fore, who became Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Director of US Foreign Assistance in 2007, has joined the Board of Directors of the International Youth Foundation (IYF). Ms. Fore, who was the first woman to hold this position, was in charge of directing the US government’s approach to foreign assistance and providing strategic direction and guidance to all foreign assistance programs. Prior to her appointment to USAID, she served as the Under Secretary of State for Management in the US Department of State from 2005 to 2007. Previously, she was the 37th Director of the United States Mint in the Department of Treasury, and served as a Presidential appointee at USAID from 1989 to 1993.  

“Drawing on her years of government service, Henrietta brings with her an extraordinary level of expertise in global development issues as well as a deep commitment to multi-sector partnerships,” said William S. Reese, President and CEO of IYF. “We welcome her insights and experience around how best to address the challenges facing today’s youth.” IYF has worked closely with USAID’s Global Development Alliance over many years, leveraging public-private partnerships to boost job training, education, and health opportunities among underserved youth worldwide.  

A successful business woman before she entered the government, Ms. Fore was chair and president of Stockton Wire Products and served on the corporate boards of the Dexter Corporation and HSB Group Inc. She has also held leadership positions in a number of international non-profit organizations, including the Center of Strategic and International Studies, Aspen Institute, the Asia Society, and National Public Radio Foundation.  

Ms. Fore has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Wellesley College and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. She also studied International Politics at Oxford University and attended Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
