Where We Work: Hungary
In response to 40 years of centralized and one-party politics in Hungary, the local adaptation of our Make a Connection initiative, Kapcsolódj be!, focused on community involvement and active citizenship.
Through our local partner, we provided small grants, training, and technical assistance to volunteer groups carrying out service projects over the course of a school year. In addition to supporting these youth-led activities, the initiative focused on building a national network of young people committed to volunteerism and raising national awareness about youth civic engagement. From 2003 to 2011, the initiative reached more than 10,000 young people here. As a result of participating, 73 percent of youth said they volunteered more and were more productive in school, at work, and in the community.
