Green Skills was a component of the Skills for Prosperity Mexico program that provided technical assistance to Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education (HE) academic institutions to strengthen their educational offerings related to the clean energy industry.

Through relevant, equitable, and quality education, Green Skills contributed to the transition to a low-carbon economy, strengthened the clean energy labor market, and increased the employability of graduates in that field.

Green Skills offered six technical skills development courses, each consisting of up to 24 hours of training:

  • Solar Photovoltaic Systems
  • Solar Water Heating Systems
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Circular Economy
  • Electromobility
  • Technical English for Energy

The Green Skills program is relevant because Mexico’s energy sector is a pillar of economic development for the country. It also contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 and 12.

Green Skills operates through a Training of Trainers (ToT) model, thus enabling the program to reach a wider audience of youth through the training of their teachers. By combining practical and educational components, Green Skills trained 113 teachers from 9 TVET and HE schools. During its implementation period, Green Skills opened the way for young people to face the sustainability challenges of the future.
