Launched in 2015 with partner Chevron, this community-driven initiative will prepare young men and women in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan to find and keep jobs. Youth, their families, and community stakeholders will be involved in all stages; for example, they voted on the name Zangar, which means “mighty.” The initiative has two key strategies: creating an environment supportive of youth learning and professional skill-building and expanding programming for life skills and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Having identified life skills as one of the major employability and social needs of young people here, Zangar will incorporate our proven Passport to Success® curriculum. Practical and engaging STEM training will prepare youth with market-relevant skills. Ultimately the initiative aims to boost youth inclusion and civic engagement.
