Cristian Vélez Ramirez founded Amazon Forever in 2018. The organization connects people with the Amazon, fostering permanent emotional ties with this natural environment. They promote educational and responsible tourism programs that encourage the local community, especially children, to become consciously involved in the conservation of the Amazon and its wildlife.

“No one cares for what they do not love, and no one loves what they do not know,” explains Cristian. “This project will directly help us to conserve 11 hectares of white sand forest… and reach a greater number of people, virtually and in person, through our environmental communication and education for sustainable development programs. [In addition], we will help boost the local economy, which, for the most part, lives off tourist activity, one of the hardest hit by the pandemic.”

The Global Youth Resilience fund will help Cristian and his team achieve their goals in the following ways:

  • Train 320 teachers from Amazonian schools to use experiential and emotional education strategies, as well as the virtual use of eco-stories as a tool to teach about the conservation of Amazonian ecosystems.
  • Teach 8000 students about the Amazon virtually through the “Eco-Cuentos de Huayo” program which uses stories that have an environmental message and are strongly contextualized for the Amazon.
  • Welcome 9600 visitors to our “Amazon Forever Biopark” to give them the opportunity to connect with nature and learn about the importance of wild species in the Amazon and how to protect them.
