As IYF's Livelihoods Advisor, Obert leads the livelihood development components of the Takunda program, providing technical support to teams involved in designing and implementing on-farm and off-farm income promotion activities. He also provides supportive services such as access to finance, technical skills training, entrepreneurship and employability training, and other business development services to ensure meaningful impact. Obert chaired the program’s livelihoods technical working group, building staff capacity in financial and social considerations in the selection and support of participants engaged in programmatic livelihood activities. In his role at IYF, Obert ensures that market systems are inclusive and able to provide opportunities for entrepreneurs to upgrade, innovate, and add value to their products and services to match market demand. He also focuses on building resiliency in market actors so that they can continuously adapt to ongoing shifts in the market as well as production practices influenced by the environment. Obert has been in the development field for over 19 years--12 years with CARE International and 7 years with the Swedish Cooperative Centre, (WEE Effect Southern Africa). He has vast experience in business training and enterprise development, having worked for various multimillion-dollar projects like the Zimbabwe Resilience Building Fund (ZRBF) and the Livelihood Food Security program (LFSP). Obert holds a Master of Arts degree in Development Studies, (MSU), a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in Marketing (NUST), a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management (PMIZ), and a Diploma in Sales Management and Marketing (ICM UK).
