This diagnostic study by the International Youth Foundation (IYF), developed in collaboration with the Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad (IMCO) and with support from Google.org, explores the structural barriers women face in entering and thriving in Mexico’s Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector. With women currently making up only 15% of the ICT workforce, the report highlights how greater gender inclusion not only promotes equity but also boosts innovation, productivity, and economic growth.
The report shows that the ICT sector is expanding faster than the national economy and faces a growing demand for skilled talent. Through data analysis, interviews, and economic modeling, it outlines how increasing women’s participation could significantly impact Mexico’s GDP and raise the sector’s overall wage pool. The study also offers clear, actionable recommendations for education systems, employers, and public institutions to help build more inclusive pathways into tech careers.
