Improving Training for Quality Advancement in National Education (Itqane) Project

More than 250,000 students drop out of middle school each year in the Fès-Boulemane and Doukkala-Abda regions of Morocco. Our Itqane initiative (Improving Training for Quality Advancement in National Education and also “perfection” in Arabic) sought to reverse this trend by improving the quality of teacher training and student learning in area middle schools and rural youth centers. To help improve the quality of teaching and relevance of educational content, IYF adapted its Passport to Success® (PTS) life skills curriculum to the local language and culture. Between December 2009 and the program’s end in mid-2014, IYF trained more than 775 middle school teachers, guidance counselors, and Peace Corps volunteers and staff in how to effectively teach the PTS curriculum. In turn, together they have reached almost 11,800 students.
