Germán Santillán is a Social Entrepreneur and Cultural Chocolatier working towards a more inclusive and just future through the recognition of the importance of indigenous cultures. He is the Founder and CEO of Oaxacanita Chocolate, the first Mexican social chocolate company to be recognized internationally for its social impact. Through the production of artisanal chocolate, Germán and his team contribute to the social, economic, and environmental development of the proudly indigenous communities of the Mixtec Region of Oaxaca. Germán's work with Oaxacanita Chocolate has been recognized by Former President Barack Obama and the United States Government, The International Youth Foundation, Laureate International Universities, Meta, TED Conferences, the Organization of American States, and the Westerwelle Foundation for contributions to international social innovation. At the national level, Oaxacanita Chocolate has been recognized with a Goula Award, a UVM Award, a Razón de Ser Award, and a #SoyGeneraciónRestauración Challenge Unilever Award. Since 2015, Germán has built strong relationships with more than 30 national and international organizations with whom he and his team collaborate to create opportunities in the region related to social entrepreneurship, languages, human rights, STEAM, and healthcare. In other roles, he is a Board Member of the Association of Chocolatiers of the State of Oaxaca, Board Special Advisor of the U.S. Department of State's Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative, and Ambassador of the Westerwelle Foundation based in Berlin, Germany. In addition, Germán has been a TED Fellow, YLAI Fellow, LGF Fellow, FCS Fellow, WF YFP Fellow, and YABT Fellow. A graduate of Business Sciences from the Mixtec Technological University, Germán has diplomas in Leadership and Entrepreneurship from the University of Notre Dame, the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University, and the IESDE School of Management.
