BACKGROUND
Sport for Kenyan Youth Employment (SKYE) is an 18-month sport for development project that will provide disadvantage young women and men (ages 18 to 24), living in Nairobi’s Mathare slum and its surrounding communities with market relevant work readiness and technical skills for improved livelihoods and employment.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION & JOB PURPOSE
The Program Manager will be responsible for technical, administrative, and general operational support for the SKYE project in Kenya, and other IYF projects as assigned. Specific project implementation support will include monitoring of local partners and other activities as assigned.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the direction of IYF’s Country Director, implement assigned program activities related to the SKYE project and support project outcomes and deliverables in accordance with IYF and donor rules and regulations, grant agreements, and work plans.
- Prepare the first draft of quarterly performance reports and contribute to other project reports and communications materials.
- Contribute to regular updates (for donor and IYF USA) on project developments and status.
- Manage and facilitate flow of essential information among team members and project stakeholders.
- Maintain the project calendar and ensure that deadlines are being met according to the work plan.
- Maintain timely and complete financial reporting on project expenses.
- Manage and maintain records of contract agreements including paper and electronic files, an inventory of all agreements, and a schedule of dates relevant to those agreements.
- Monitor trainers and consultants in their compliance with the terms and conditions of their agreements.
- Ensure logistical organization of IYF activities in the field, including Training of Trainers, as needed.
- Assist with selection of youth to participate in the project, following all criteria set forth by IYF in partnership with its local partners.
- Conduct baseline and exit surveys, review and ensure that all data are entered correctly and that the database is updated in a timely manner.
- Keep track of all youth participating in the project, from the beginning to the end of their training and certification, and beyond the program as time allows. Serve as the principal monitoring and evaluation focal point for the project.
- Propose and manage logistic solutions for the project, including identification of potential catering and transportation alternatives where necessary, in accordance with the budget.
- Support and monitor the skills training and financial literacy training sessions.
- Support the capacity building plan for partners through organizing capacity improvement workshops, monitoring the capacity improvement plan progress, and other tasks as needed.
- Work with partners to coordinate meeting and information sharing sessions.
- Provide technical and administrative support to other IYF projects being implemented and/or under development.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the Country Director.

Reports to the Country Director based in Nairobi, Kenya
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to IYF’s mission and programs (Social Science, Economics, and Public Policy).
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience with programs that support youth employment, education/training, sport for development, and/or social services preferred.
- Ability to understand the trends on youth needs and youth training for their insertion in the labor market, especially in Kenya.
- Outstanding research and quantitative/qualitative analytical skills. Attention to detail, reliability, thoroughness, and accuracy with numbers.
- Proven organizational skills necessary to manage multiple responsibilities. Good judgment to establish priorities for effective time management.
- Proven passion and training experience in life skills for youth and ability to adapt quickly to youth challenges.
- Ability to identify and establish priorities, work independently, and exercise sound judgment and discretion. Ability to identify problems and demonstrate creativity and flexibility in addressing problems, works well in group problem solving situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
- Experienced in the use of the full suite of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
