Program Description

Jóvenes Innovadores supports young people in Arequipa, Peru to prepare themselves for careers in growing sectors such as IT and clean energy. In partnership with the Anglo American Foundation, IYF works alongside technical institutes, employers, and the public sector to align curricula with labor market demand and strengthen teaching practices. Young people build technical and life skills, connect with employers, and help shape the program through youth leadership. Additionally, through a Youth Leadership Advisory Committee, participants contribute to program design and lead strategies that expand awareness of professional opportunities in emerging sectors within their communities. The program also works to challenge gender stereotypes that can limit who sees themselves in these careers.

Change in Action

Jóvenes Innovadores is strengthening the path from technical education to employment in Arequipa. More than 1,100 young people have participated, including 45% women, and 270+ teachers have been trained to continue delivering the model and expand opportunities for future students. By working with both educators and employers, the program helps make training more relevant to growing industries while opening those opportunities to more young people.

“I really value having a space like this where I can feel supported and begin to believe in myself.”
