Where We Work: South Africa
With more than 15 years experience working in South Africa, we are collaborating with government, industry, and civil society here to strengthen training systems that prepare youth for the world of work.
Currently, our High Gear initiative is advancing South Africa's public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college system. As part of the EOH Youth Job Creation Initiative, we've promoted the development and delivery of IYF's Passport to Success® (PTS) life skills training for youth from disadvantaged backgrounds and communities. We worked with major international partners such as Hilton Worldwide, The Caterpillar Foundation, Embassy of Ireland, and Walmart Foundation to enhance young people’s employability. In addition, we partnered with local youth-serving NGOs, such as St. Anthony’s Education Centre, to strengthen their services by leveraging our range of curricula and toolkits. To round out our understanding and offerings, we identified opportunities and challenges for South African youth through our Global Youth Wellbeing Index and labor market assessments in the manufacturing and ICT sectors. South Africa is also home to YouthActionNet® Laureate Global Fellows, whose ventures are advancing social innovation.
