IYF Intern Program (USA)
The International Youth Foundation (IYF) stands by, for, and with young people. Founded in 1990, IYF is a global nonprofit that has worked in more than 100 countries in close collaboration with over 600 local partners to directly serve more than 7.7 million young people, and indirectly serve 12 million young people. Together with local community-based organizations and a network of corporate, foundation, bilateral, and multilateral partners, we connect young people with opportunities to transform their lives. We believe that educated, employed, engaged young people possess the power to solve the world’s toughest problems, and we focus our youth development efforts on three linked objectives: unlocking youth agency, driving economic opportunity, and making systems more inclusive. Our vision is to see young people inspired and equipped to realize the future they want.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) at IYF
IYF is committed to combatting and dismantling systemic racism. To address this, a DEI Council was convened, and the Council developed an action plan targeting four specific areas for improvement. IYF’s #4toSoar are four areas of focus where IYF will make intentional efforts to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion internally. With focuses on ensuring equity of access for all young people and increasing the percentages of BIPOC staff at all levels, IYF is implementing an internship program to further these efforts.
Intern Program Background
The intern program at IYF actively targets college students from Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia who identify as BIPOC and/or with another underrepresented or historically marginalized group. BIPOC face many institutional barriers, and their talent and leadership is underrepresented in the international development sector. IYF is committed to removing these barriers. This program offers emerging leaders from underrepresented communities and diverse ethnic backgrounds the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in a wide range of programmatic, financial, and administrative functions within an international nonprofit.
Intern Program Structure
- Open to students pursuing an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree who identify as BIPOC and/or with another underrepresented or historically-marginalized group.
- Internships will be conducted remotely.
- Students in undergraduate programs will receive $16/hour. Those pursuing a second bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree will receive $20/hour.
